Classroom Corner – One to One…..Acer Palmatum
This tree was one of several brought to a recent one to one session with Andrew. The tree had originated from my garden and been transferred to a bonsai training pot. I had carried out some initial styling and branch selection before the tree was sold.
The tree had grown well last year under Andrew’s supervision and was now ready for further work. Another branch selection was made and some branches were shortened. Some branches were also wired to improve their position or angle with the trunk.
The old dead stumps were cut into and torn back to reduce their size and make them blend in more naturally with the trunk. Andrew can now carry out further improvement/hollowing work by using power tools.
This tree is progressing well and shows great promise to create a really substantial old looking Maple bonsai. Andrew was advised on how to deal with the tree in the coming growing season…..which branches to prune and which ones to let grow.
