Some trees just need a bit of tidying up. Posted on October 18, 2021 by John Hanby This privet bonsai had been allowed to extend during the growing season especially to strengthen and thicken the lower branches. After some general pruning back to shape the image of this tree is developing well. A Juniper Ittogawa showing good colour and shoot extension. Shoots are pruned back and the foliage clouds are manipulated to show greater definition and highlight the open spaces. A yamadori Spruce in need of a branch selection prior to wiring and styling. The tree is now ready for wiring but already the future shape of the tree is much more clearly visible. This Juniper has grown well but is beginning to resemble a bush. There is a very impressive trunk hidden inside. It’s surprising how much foliage I had to remove to allow more light and air to enter the canopy.
