An open window into the comings and goings of students and their trees attending our regular weekend and midweek bonsai classes under the ever watchful eyes of John Hanby.
Classroom Corner – Maples Two Class Saturday 1st June
We have three sessions of this popular class on our schedule and the first one was held on Saturday 1st June. Seven students attended and each one brought several of their maples for advice on what to do next.
Each tree was appraised and advice was given based on the tree’s current condition/stage of development and what was required to take it to the next stage.
In some cases branches had to be selected, dense foliage areas cleaned out and lightened, growth extensions pruned/pinched back or left to grow even longer. It all depends on what you are trying to achieve. Each tree is different, and different parts of the same tree often need to be treated differently.
On completion of the work done during the class each student was told what he would need to do to his tree and the new growth in the forthcoming months.
The pictures below give you a brief insight into some of the trees discussed in class. As you can see they came in all shapes and sizes and many different varieties. Students are able to learn so much more from the other trees appearing and not just from their own trees.
